I have two journals on the go and one I am swapping with a new found friend from Greece! We seemed to hit it off right away and she is a fantastic sketcher. I am excited to receive her journal next week .
Here are some works in my own journal. It is a large watercolour moleskine in landscape. They only do landscape in this one but it will do for practising. I ordered another from The Book Depositary,as they are reduced in price at the moment and shipping is free.
I handmade the collaborative journal because we wanted to keep it light in weight to reduce shipping costs. We shall be sending to each other until the journals are filled. Here is what I did in that journal:
I mentioned in a previous about buying artist grade watercolours and which to choose. I went for various makes in pans and tube but i also bought a set by Maimeri, from an Italian online store. They were cheaper than other stores from abroad as this make Maimeri Blu, are VERY difficult to find even though they make them in Milan!! I was disappointed when I received them having pais a lot of m oney because 7 of the pans looked funky. I wrote to the store and after much insistence they agreed to change them. The funky pans were sent back at my expense!
They assured me that their representative said that they are fine and it is just because the pans are hand filled and due to the various drying stages in the making of the paints.
Wanting a second opinion I wrote to Maimeri in Milan and they said the same thing. It looks to me like they have melted, were badly stored and pigment has separated.
I have asked in a group of international artists about these pans and none have bought pans in these condition and all said that they should be exchanged at no cost. An Italian artist has this same set and hers were all perfect. So, I refused to keep these deformed pans that should have gone in the reject bucket. I paid the big bux so I want them how they should be.
I've always had problems from Italian online art stores! Either they ship late, packages get sent back because of the courier, stuff ordered isn't actually in stock and now this. In the end it's not worth the hassle and i will be giving my money to other countries that are more reliable and respectful of customers! They don't help our economic climate!
I bought these second hand books cheaply from Amazon and they are really good for learning how to sketch in pen and ink, learning to watercolour and how to keep a journal. I recommend these . All are by Claudia nice:
