We decided to do a challenge in a Michael DeMeng Facebook group 'workshop junkies' and I came up with the idea after being inspired by Sue Roddis' Altered Face brushes that she posted in the group. We all thought it would be cool to do a Voodoo theme. Mine was a household 50mm brush bought at the supermarket.
I first saw these brushes about 2 years ago when i first heard about Michael DeMeng. I fell in love with them but had no idea how to do them being unfamiliar with altered art at the time. We're both doing his online class which has finished its running and the brushes were a fun way to put to use what we had learned.
I knew that i wanted to do a red devil face with horns and then I wanted to add a snake to it. I went to look at some photos for reference and my 3 horned devil and snake looked like an altar piece from a truly amazing Haitian Vodou Collection owned by Marianne Lehmann, born in Kirchberg in the canton of Bern (Switzerland), settled in Port-au-Prince in 1957 after marrying a Haitian national. There is a fascinating documentary about it. So, my piece became Bosou.

I watched the whole video you had the link to, and I will say you really captured the feel of the original Vodou pieces in this work.
